Staff from ANZCO Foods recently spent a memorable day at GCH Aviation’s Christchurch emergency aviation base, gaining first-hand insights into the life-saving work of the Canterbury Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The visit offered the team an up-close view of how their support provides essential fuel for critical missions, while allowing them to connect with the skilled crew and pilots who rely on nutritious meals to stay mission ready.

During the visit, the ANZCO team participated in an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, learning about day-to-day operations, challenges, and the technically advanced medical equipment used on the helicopters. Crew members shared powerful rescue stories, explaining how speed and access can make all the difference between life and death in emergencies throughout the region.

Adding to the impactful day, ANZCO Foods and the crew welcomed Andrew Hurst, a sheep and beef farmer recently featured in ANZCO’s magazine, Advantage. After a serious accident on his farm near Fairlie, Andrew was rescued by the service and the skills of Critical Care Paramedic, Tatsu, ensured that the hospital doctors were able to save Andrew’s leg, which had been badly damaged in the accident.

In a show of appreciation, ANZCO Foods staff prepared a special lunch onsite, grilling up delicious Angel Bay burgers for the dedicated rescue team and support staff. The gathering emphasised ANZCO’s commitment to supporting those who serve the community and ensuring that the crew, pilots and staff were well-fuelled for the demanding day ahead.

For the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, having partners like ANZCO Foods provides both physical sustenance and a morale boost, knowing the service’s essential work is recognised and supported by the community. The lunch served as a meal and a moment of camaraderie between the Trust, ANZCO Foods and the service operator, GCH Aviation, solidifying a partnership that is as nourishing as it is meaningful.
