Where’s Charlie?

Myself (Rose), Charlie and Peter, all workmates from Fonterra, were about to embark on an exciting adventure (Kennett brothers – Tour of Aotearoa)

We’d arrived in Keri Keri, reassembled our bikes then decided to bike into town for lunch.

Peter and Charlie went on ahead as I needed to readjust some staps. As I was catching up, I saw Charlie collapse and roll into a ditch, I caught up with him as he was trying to get back up, he said he had felt a bit dizzy but was fine, then he collapsed again.

Peter had been ahead but, luckily, he heard me calling for him to come back.

We called 111 as Charlie had lost consciousness and had stopped breathing. Peter immediately started CPR until the ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived.

They were eventually able to get Charlie stable enough to be flown to hospital.

We are forever grateful to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter for making this life saving trip.

In appreciation we are going to ride the Tour Aotearoa this February to raise funds for this amazing service.
