It’s something people often put off because they have one or more of the following mindsets: –
1. I don’t have much to leave
But if you have a KiwiSaver account, life partner, children or even a pet then you should let people know what you want to happen to them if something should happen to you. It makes it much easier for your loved ones if you’ve made your feelings known in advance and they can simply follow your wishes.
2. I don’t have time
We absolutely get this one, many of us are time poor and writing a will can feel like a huge task to add to the to do list. However, an online will can be done in as little as 10 minutes by completing a series of questions on the Gathered Here platform, then printing off the document and getting it witnessed. These days the task is just so much more manageable.
3. I can’t afford the cost
If you have a complicated estate then you might want to work with a lawyer, but if you’re making your first will or everything is fairly straightforward then the online option is a great starting point.
