Rescue Crew Challenge Raises $100,000!
The Rescue Crew Challenge 2019 (RCC) got underway on Sunday 22nd September. 19 Canterbury businesses took on the challenge; forming teams of 4 to fundraise and compete in the RCC event. Over $100,000 was raised and the Trust cannot thank everyone enough for their fantastic teamwork and fundraising efforts.
Willie Apiata was an inspirational ambassador for the event, and we were thrilled to have him involved on the day. He gave a motivational speech to kick off the event and spent the day offering words of support and encouragement to all the teams from the sidelines. His involvement on the day was a real thrill for the Trust, Crew and teams alike.
The RCC is a series of challenges designed to reflect the unique challenges our Rescue Helicopter crews face when out on rescue missions. It consists of physical and mental challenges with a real focus on teamwork. Part one of the event saw 20 teams competing head to head in a series of 10 challenges while part two of the event was as an ‘all in’ style race. All the businesses competing in the RCC also took on the challenge to fundraise $5,000 for the Rescue Helicopter Service. Members of the Crew also competed as a team on the day and showcased their very diverse skills and talents. Competing in the RCC gave teams an understanding of the costs involved in saving a life, as well as the physical and mental challenges of the job.
