The Lions are ordinary men, women and young people from all walks of life who bridge religious, political, economic and social boundaries. They are united in their desire to make a difference by contributing their personal time and talents to help other people. Their motto is “We Serve”.
The Geraldine Lions Club, with a 70 person strong membership recently donated $2,000 to the Rescue Helicopter Trust. Some of the funds were raised as a result of supporting the 2017 Spring Challenge in Geraldine; an amazing New Zealand adventure racing event, where teams of three women take part in the adventure that includes rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and orienteering. This year’s event was in Westport.
We also had The Lions Club of Ashburton Pakeke recently visit the Air Rescue base and made a donation of $2,000 with funds raised as part of bus trip members took to Kaikoura. The Lions Club of Cheviot also donated $2,000 by raising funds through their annual quiz night.
The Lions see the inherent value of contributing to saving lives and doing their part to help the community. Their generosity enables the Canterbury Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the West Coast NZCC Rescue Helicopter to be there for our communities.
