The reality is that most gifts in Wills are made by ordinary, hardworking people who want to make a positive difference to their community and to other people’s lives.

When you choose to leave a gift in your Will to the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, no matter how large or small the gift, we guarantee that your generosity will continue to save lives beyond your own lifetime.

The Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust is a registered charity and funds the rescue helicopter services which are a lifeline to an average of 3 patients in our region every day. We need community donations and gifts in Wills to continue to provide a free 24/7 Air Ambulance and Rescue Service.

The process of leaving a Gift in your Will is simple and must be conducted through your solicitor who will help you turn your wishes into words. The Public Trust also prepares Wills at no cost.

You will need to reference the full name of our charity “Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust” and our charity registration number “CC23893”. If you already have a will, your solicitor may just need to draw up a codicil – an addition or amendment to your will. This codicil will then need to be incorporated into your will -

“I [insert name] give and bequeath to Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, charity registration number CC23893, a gift in my Will for general purposes of [Choose and insert the appropriate statement from the list below]

  • the whole of my estate
  • [insert number] % percentage of my estate
  • the residue of my estate
  • the amount of $ [insert the value of your gift in cash]
  • my asset [insert name of asset]

and the official receipt of the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust will be sufficient acknowledgement of having received this gift.”

You may wish to speak to your family and friends about your decision, so they can support the achievement of your charitable goals when the time comes. Rest assured that it can be your choice to be acknowledged or you can request confidentiality around any gifts left to the Air Rescue Helicopter Trust.

It is up to you whether you tell us if you have left the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust a gift in your Will but it can be helpful for us to have this information so we can plan effectively for the future, but more importantly that we have the opportunity to acknowledge and thank you appropriately.

If appropriate, we can arrange a time for a one-on-one chat about your bequest intentions and how your gift will make a difference to the community.
