The Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust was thrilled to be named the charity partners for the 2020 Hurunui Race & Gala Day.
The origin of the Hurunui Race and Gala Day dates back to Saturday 11th April 1874 when the historic track at Medbury was for used for racing. The first major race meeting and gala day was held on 7th January 1995, although previous smaller race days were held as early as 1920. This year the event was held on the 8th February 2020 and it was a day filled with community pride, tradition and competitive excitement.
The first race begun at 11am and the day was filled with fun for all. Kids entertainment, fashion in the field, raffles and a variety of craft, trade and food stalls were just some of the features available at the event. The day saw 8 races in total and our sincere thanks goes out to all the competitors whose contribution was acknowledged by the Hurunui Race & Gala Day Committee and spectators alike.
CEO of the Trust, Christine Prince spoke at the event, and thanked the committee for the huge effort made to make this event a possibility. The Trust was present primarily on the gates during the event, and ticket collection, where we were able to meet many members of the North Canterbury community.
The 2020 Hurunui Race & Gala Day was a spectacular event that the Trust was proud to be a part of.
Thank you to the Hurunui Race & Gala Day Committee, event sponsors and the local community for a fantastic, action-packed day at the Hurunui Race Course. Your commitment to supporting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is helping to saves lives across Canterbury.
