Like everyone in New Zealand we are tracking developments with COVID-19 on an on-going basis and the Rescue Service being a front-line emergency health service, we must plan for the worst while we hope for the best.
As the situation with the virus is changing so rapidly, we need to be proactive now to support our service so the crew can continue to provide the best possible outcome for the patients we are caring for, those with COVID-19 and all our other patients in emergency situations.
As the situation with the virus is changing so rapidly, we need to be proactive now to support our service so the crew can continue to provide the best possible outcome for the patients we are caring for.
As a part of this we need protective equipment and new medical supplies most immediately. Due to the nature of the virus we need additional ventilators; and laryngoscopes so the crew can effectively distance themselves from the patients presenting symptoms and requiring treatment.
As you may be aware, our sister trust the New Zealand Flying Doctor Service, is part of the broader health plan and will be transporting more patients around the country. This service is effectively a portable intensive care unit with highly specialist medical staff. This service costs will increase and additional equipment will also be required.
This is an unprecedented and fast moving situation so we must prepare for COVID-19 now.
We appreciate the broader effects of COVID-19 on the whole community however in these circumstances we are compelled to seek assistance.
If you can help in any way, please, this is the time. We really appreciate that not everyone will be in a position to do so but if you are able, it will make a difference.
Please do keep safe and follow guidelines, we will all get through this. We know, especially in our region, that in such difficult times we pull together and we look after each other.
Thank you for your support.
