August 2020 Mission Statistics
The Canterbury and West Coast Crews responded to a total of 93 emergency service call-outs in July. The Canterbury Westpac Rescue Crew were tasked to 77 missions during the month, and the West Coast ROA Mining Rescue Crew were tasked to 16 missions.
August was the second busiest month of the year for the Canterbury Crew. The crew clocked in over 120 hours of flight time across the region to locations including Mt Cook, Kaikoura, Mt Hutt, Tekapo and Twizel, to name just a few. August has historically been a busy month for the rescue crew and this year proved no different. A wide variety of accidents kept the crew busy this month, skiing related injuries, motor vehicle accidents and leisure accidents were just some of the missions the crew responded to.
The Greymouth base Crew responded to 16 missions in locations including Whataroa, Fox Glacier and Karamea. The majority of missions the crew responded to were medical events in the community. Night vision goggles were required on 4 occasions for missions tasked after hours, the crew totaled 42 flight hours for the month.
