In May we celebrated 25 Years of Westpac’s support along with the team at Westpac and GCH Aviation – some of whom have been involved with the Rescue Helicopter Service that long!
The celebration, held at the GCH Aviation Emergency AirCentre, looked at the Service’s history through an exhibition, and the 120 strong crowd listened to stories from past and present crew as well as patients. Don, a “great fan”, was out fishing when he was swept out to sea. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew pulled him out of the water in one of the most memorable jobs they’ve completed. “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them,” he said.
Neil Scott, one of the original Westpac Rescue Helicopter pilot’s, says, “A lot of people come up to me and say gidday, you helped me at one place or another.”
The day was also commemorated with Service Awards, recognising those who have dedicated their time to helping the communities of Canterbury and the West Coast.
