The 24/7 emergency service is always on call
to save lives whenever they’re needed.
We need to raise $6m each year to provide this critical service.
Your support helps ensure that we can continue to
offer this lifesaving service to our community.
Those Good Bastards have been at it again….the Rangitata Huts Good Bastards, that is.
For the third year running, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been their charity of choice to receive proceeds from a fundraising raffle, and we were thrilled to catch up with (L-R) Derek Davies, Brian Donaldson, Evan Carter and Bob Mortimer, who made the trip north to present a donation of $2,000 this week. The rescue helicopter service is a familiar sight in Rangitata Huts and surrounding communities, and we are hugely grateful for the strong support in return. Thank you to all the Rangitata Huts Good Bastards, and to everyone who made this donation possible, either by sponsoring/donating to the raffle, or by buying tickets again in 2024.
One crew each day is on base for 24 hours so they can be up in the air within 20 minutes if they`re needed. This means that we have a full kitchen and sleeping quarters at the base so our crews can eat and sleep. Yesterday I caught this lovely photo of CCP Steve. He and Rob were prepping a wonderful meal of crumbed lamb chops, scalloped potatoes and fresh broccoli for the team.
Yesterday morning the crew were called out to a search and rescue in Ashburton area. It was a very early start and a long mission. The crew would like to send a huge thank you to Samuel Cullimore, local Ashburton firefighter and land SAR volunteer, who came out early to fix the crew up with coffee and some food. They really appreciated your camraderie!
On another note - if you lose your PLB please report it through the RCC website!
