Air Rescue Paramedics Training for Challenge Wanaka 2010 or The Wanaka Ironman Training Programme

Rescue Chopper Challenge

Welcome to the “Rescue Chopper Challenge” - a project covering training, preparation and events for two of our paramedics competing in “Challenge Wanaka 2010”. The event (also known as the Wanaka Ironman)” is a long distance triathlon involving a 3.8 km swim and 180kms cycling followed by a traditional gut-busting marathon run through one of the world’s most scenic and challenging environments!

Christchurch Westpac Rescue Paramedics Shane Lynch and Andy Frankenschmidt are both keen athletes and were looking for a project that combined their sporting and professional ambitions as well as the chance to raise awareness and funds for the Rescue Chopper along the way! Their training programme, and the event itself, is a real challenge - just like the annual funding of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter!

Shane Lynch

Originally from the Deep South, Shane has lived and worked throughout the South Island. After working in the UK and Europe, he returned to continue his outdoor career working for Franz Josef Glacier Guides. Shane now works as a St John Paramedic on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in Christchurch. Read More

Andy Frankenschmidt

Hailing from the south-western corner of Germany, in a town called Freiburg, Andy grew up surrounded by the great outdoors of the Black Forest mountains and the Rhine valley. Having lived and worked in New Zealand for the last 2 1/2 years, Andy is now based in Canterbury and currently works as St John and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Paramedic in Christchurch. Read more
