Monday 19th April 2010

Winners in the recent Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust's Schools Colouring Competition were flown to their respective school's this morning as part of their prize.

In Christchurch 9 year old Kawhiamae Stewart and her friends arrived at Richmond Primary School in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

On the West Coast, 7 year old Claudia South and friends, landed at St Mary's School in Hokitika aboard the Solid Energy Rescue Helicopter.

Both were winners in the recent primary schools colouring competition which attracted  a record number of entries: 1097 from Canterbury schools and 451 entries from the West Coast.

The Canterbury runners up were: 2nd Logan Whiting, aged 12 of Templeton Primary School and 3rd Leila Rhodes, aged 5 (and three-quarters) from Russley School.

The West Coast runners up: 2nd Luka Ordham, aged 9 from Reefton Area School and 3rd Ashleigh Byrne- Clarkson, aged 8 also from Reefton Area School.

Jacobs River School on the West Coast are the recipients of a special Solid Energy $250 book prize having the highest percentage of their roll enter the colouring competition.

We'd like to thank everyone who took the time to enter, and the teachers and schools that participated for their wonderful support. The standard of entries gets better and better every year - making the judges job harder and harder !!
