For 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the New Zealand Flying Doctor Service provides critical-care patient transfer services between specialist metropolitan hospital facilities and outlying areas, accompanied by skilled medical practitioners in the aircraft alongside patients.

From critical care burns victims, spinal injury patients, neonatal transfers, or accident trauma victims to routine elective surgery transfers, organ delivery, blood or equipment supply, the New Zealand Flying Doctor Service offers a fast, efficient and effective transfer facility with specialised care and attention every step of the way.

 

Since inception, the New Zealand Flying Doctor Service has completed well over 2000 missions.

The Aircraft

 

Cessna 421 Golden Eagle

Single pilot IFR (instrument flight rules), pressurised twin engine aircraft, purchased in 1996.  It is fitted with a side cargo door which is needed to load stretchers in and out of the aircraft.

Cessna Conquest C441

Pressurised twin turbo prop, single pilot IFR aircraft  purchased in 2001 from the Australian Flying Doctor Service. The C441 is capable of flying at 300 knots and up to 35,000 feet, proving to be a real performer in the Air Ambulance role.

Beechcraft King Air 200 

The King Air 200 is a high performance corporate transfer aircraft which can be quickly converted for use in Air Ambulance mode with space for 2 patient stretchers plus equipment and up to 4 medical attendants. With its own, self-contained stretcher lifting capability and short runway requirements, the King Air 200 can efficiently operate around the country, including the Chatham Islands.

Beechcraft King Air C90B

A recent addition to the Garden City Helicopter's fleet of aircraft is a Beechcraft King Air C90B, with comfortable new interior and livery plus extensive avionics. The King Air C90B has the ability to fly in 6 passenger VIP mode or be quickly converted for use in Air Ambulance mode with space for patients plus equipment and medical attendants.
